As a follower of Rembrandt, every so often I am moved to recreate one that I would have liked to have painted, so that I can learn from it and enjoy the process of holding the painting in my hands. I am a huge believer in the old school of thought that we learn from the old masters by copying from them. The only thing that could have been better would have been to stand in front of it while copying it, a privileged practice still carried out in many fine museums today.
